We will start with some general knowledge of this vegetable. Its name is… asparagus cabbage. Such a curiosity to start with. Broccoli is considered to be the ancestor of the cauliflower, which is more popular. It is Cyprus where it apparently comes from. An interesting fact is that it was grown in the Roman Empire.

What does broccoli consist of?

Let us turn to the content of vitamins and elements. Amino acids include large amounts of tryptophan (related to our well-being), glutamic acid, aspartic acid and glycine.

The most frequently cited “richness” of broccoli is sulforaphane. This is due to research which indicated that this compound has a strong anticancer effect. That is why broccoli appear in the “Tumour Diet” style guides.

What does broccoli consist of

Let’s move on to vitamins. Ascorbic acid comes first because vitamin C is also the most abundant in broccoli. The second most abundant of this vegetable is group B. Here you will find riboflavin, thiamine and niacin, among others.

As far as the elements are concerned, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium are the leading elements here. There is also zinc and manganese. Since we already know the content of this vegetable, let us move on to its properties. Including those that we are most interested in, which are related to weight loss.

In many texts on these vegetables, the phrase ‘healthy, so it is essential to include them in the menu’ appears. But what does that actually mean? What will you get out of eating broccoli?

This is an anti-cancer effect which can reduce the risk of prostate, cervical, stomach and esophageal cancer, among other things. This is the most frequently mentioned property of broccoli. But it is not the only one.

This vegetable contains a group of antioxidants with different effects. One of them protects against inflammation. This is good information for people who have problems with frequent joint pain. The anti-allergic properties of broccoli are also worth mentioning. And this is another reason why this vegetable should be included in the menu.

Another skill links broccoli to autism. More specifically, the sulforaphane mentioned above reduces inflammation associated with oxidative stress. The latter is characteristic for people with autism. Sulforafan allows to improve certain behaviours, such as increased communicativeness. However, this positive effect is only temporary. It lasts as long as the substance is used. After the end of the therapy it disappears.

This property requires a separate paragraph. Again, sulforafan is in the lead role. It has a positive effect on the digestive system. Thanks to it, ulcer-related ailments can be reduced. But that is not all.

Broccoli also prevents the appearance of the ulcers themselves, as well as other diseases that can attack the digestive system. In this context, inflammation of the gastric mucous membranes is usually mentioned.

In both cases, certain elements and amino acids play an important role. Potassium and phosphorus are minerals which are particularly important for the proper functioning of the heart and, in principle, the entire cardiovascular system. They are extremely important for maintaining an appropriate level of pressure. This is particularly important for people over 40 years of age.

Broccoli improves eyesight thanks to lutein, among other things. It will not only help to prolong the ‘life’ of the eyes. It also protects against cataracts and so-called dust blindness. Although in this case, vitamin A, which will not be found in broccoli, is more effective. This vegetable brings relief to exploited and tired eyes.

It is time for what we are most interested in here. We will start by answering the question of whether this vegetable supports the process at all. Yes, it does. Firstly, broccoli is very low in calories. So you can put them on the menu during weight loss without worrying.

Secondly, they contain a lot of fibre. This causes, among other things, a positive effect on fat burning. More specifically, it speeds up the whole process. Fibre also supports the metabolism. And that is still not all. Thanks to it you can forget about the biggest problem during the fight against overweight , which is eating.

Broccoli also helps to burn fat tissue thanks to the presence of vitamin C. This vitamin is essential if you want to get rid of excessive body fat quickly.

After all, broccoli are also B vitamins. It influences, among other things, the process of transformation of individual components, such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats. This, of course, also affects the process of weight loss.

Broccoli is a vegetable from the cabbage family, which causes bloating. It is worth serving these vegetables with caraway or Garlic because they reduce this problem.

How to eat and store broccoli?

The best ones are, of course, fresh ones. In winter, frozen ones will be great. Anyway, vegetables in this form retain their nutritional value. And that is why you can lose weight in winter too.

They can spend up to two days in the fridge. And it is best to eat them within 48 hours. Broccoli can be steamed. They retain most of their properties. They can also be blanched. However, avoid frying.
